a Behind the Green Door show
Hailing from various backgrounds, both musically and geographically, Swedish psych wonder MaidaVale have captivated audiences with their spirited energy since emerging on the Stockholm underground scene a decade ago. The band blends neo-psychedelia and krautrock with influences ranging from post-punk and funkadelia to North African blues. Their acclaimed debut Tales of the Wicked West (2016) quickly propelled them into major European rock scenes and festivals. Their more kraut-influenced sophomore album Madness is too Pure (2018) solidified their place in the psych rock scene with a bold, experimental take on the genre, earning them a Swedish music prize nomination for P3 Guld in the rock category alongside acts like Graveyard.
On their third album, Sun Dog, MaidaVale, working with producers Kalle Gustafsson Jerneholm (The Soundtrack of Our Lives) and György Barocsai, paint with a larger, bolder, and brighter color palette, diving deeper than ever into their unique approach to neo-psychedelia. The album features appearances from Tinariwen's Said Ag Ayad and guest mixing from John Agnello (Kurt Vile, The Black Angels). The band's live performances include notable highlights at Manchester Psych Fest, Burg Herzberg Festival, Rockpalast, Barcelona Psych Fest, Sweden Rock Festival, Bordeaux Psych Fest, and Desertfest Berlin. MaidaVale has also toured extensively with bands like Kikagaku Moyo, Goat, and Earthless across Scandinavia and Europe.
