In the organizer's words:

This year we’re celebrating 100 years of Miles Davis. The iconic stature of this perhaps most influential jazz musician of all time is evident in the fact that one can approach the trumpeter’s extensive and multifaceted body of work from a thousand different perspectives. To mark this proud anniversary, the southern French saxophonist Matthieu Bordenave is focusing his Jazz Summer Week on the Prestige years—in other words, the classic Miles Davis. Each evening will feature a different Miles Davis album from the label’s catalog, which Bordenave will then reinterpret with his Munich 5.

Matthieu Bordenave takes a creative and contemporary approach to the material from albums such as *Cookin’*, *Relaxin’*, *Workin’*, and *Steamin’*—thereby fulfilling a fundamental tenet of jazz. A mere reconstruction of the pieces from the mid-1950s—which epitomize coolness, lyricism, elegance, and economy—would never have satisfied the saxophonist’s artistic standards. Instead, he seeks to capture and recreate the spirit of the Prestige classics.

For his Jazz Summer Week, he surrounds himself with a host of Munich greats. Claus Reichstaller (August 4 & 5) and Julian Hesse (August 6–8) have the honor of taking on the trumpet role in this Miles Davis program. The rhythm section consists of pianist Michel Reis, bassist Henning Sieverts (who will be replaced by Thomas Stabenow on August 8), and drummer Matthias Gmelin.
