The Munich Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Catherine Larsen-Maguire
Four female composers and one female conductor - in the inspiring atmosphere of the schwere seiter, the Munich Chamber Orchestra presents exemplary works from the modern string orchestra repertoire as well as new compositions and commissioned works in the MKO Songbook series. Catherine Larsen-Maguire conducts a program that brings together current positions for string orchestra in their stylistic and international diversity: In 'Everything, Always', Sara Glojnaric allows the audience to participate directly in the creation process of her music through tape recordings. In 'Entracte', Caroline Shaw takes up Joseph Haydn's last completed string quartet, which she quotes, varies and develops further. Hannah Kendall repeatedly deals with colonial history in her compositions. In '...I may turn to salt', the strings of the strings are muted with dreadlock cuffs, a piece of jewelry worn in Afro-diasporic cultures. The evening will be completed by the German premiere of a new work by Alexandra Karastoyanova, which will be premiered by the MKO a few days earlier at the 'aspekte Salzburg' festival.
