In a film series in fall 2026, we will be showing music documentaries from Ethiopia, Mali and the Congo. Unfortunately, we can only offer 34 seats for film screenings. The West African country of Mali is considered the cradle of the blues. Traditional music has held Mali's society together for centuries. But Mali's music is in danger. Radical Islamists are introducing Sharia law in the north of the country, banning dance and secular music, destroying instruments and threatening musicians. Many fear for their lives and flee the region around Timbuktu and Vidal.
