In the organizer's words:
To mark the 10th anniversary of the Düsseldorf–Palermo city partnership, the Goethe Museum is presenting the results of the transnational open call “Nature and Spirits.” The project took its starting point from Goethe’s drawing of the “spirit figures” at Villa Palagonia near Palermo (1787, Goethe Museum). A jury selected contemporary works from Düsseldorf and Palermo that reinterpret the tension between nature, the spirit, and monstrosity. The exhibition highlights the artistic diversity of both partner cities and will subsequently continue in Palermo.
