At the end of 2021, the current federal government put the NSU reappraisal on its agenda: According to the coalition agreement, it wants to support a documentation center and a place of remembrance for the NSU complex. It also wants to set up an archive on right-wing terrorism. There are similar initiatives at state level in Thuringia and Saxony.

The fact that the demands for an NSU reappraisal have been taken up is the result of many years of activities by a broad nationwide reappraisal network, which most recently came together behind the slogan "No end!". This network has used a variety of approaches to bring about clarification. However, the role of state institutions in this field remains more than doubtful. For this very reason, the question arises: How do we, as active members of the Reappraisal Network, deal with the fact that the state suddenly wants to institutionally safeguard education?

As part of a project in Saxony, a conceptual and feasibility study for a documentation center that involves those affected has been developed. At the same time, a proposal was developed on how to strengthen the decentralized nationwide reappraisal network. The two co-authors of the study, Dana Schlegelmilch and Jörg Buschmann (RAA Sachsen e.V.), will present the key points of the concept and discuss them with Mandy Boulgarides and Gavriil Voulgaridis: What opportunities are there in Saxony and nationwide? What is needed to ensure that reappraisal and remembrance can be consolidated locally and regionally? What expectations are there of politics, but also of those involved in coming to terms with the past?
