Odyssey – Nubya Garcia

Nubya Garcia is part of the tightly-knit London jazz scene, which has been receiving international media attention since the late 2010s. She effortlessly combines jazz with elements of world music, classical music, and danceable, club-ready beats to create a sound that is entirely her own. The saxophonist and composer, who has Caribbean roots, received a classical education in violin and viola before turning to the saxophone at age ten and studying jazz. Initially, she was inspired by classic figures of modern and spiritual jazz such as John Coltrane, whose formal rigor she combines with London’s artistic freedom in a stunning way. Three years ago, Nubya Garcia was already enthusiastically celebrated at the festival; now she returns with her album “Odyssey,” on which she has further refined her sonic blend. She has since become one of the most pioneering international jazz musicians of our time.
