Ökorassismus - Wie Weiße unsere Welt zerstören.
In the organizer's words:
In her talk, journalist and author Ciani-Sophia Hoeder discusses the interconnections between ecological injustice and racism. Whether a person lives next to a landfill or in a green space, whether Indigenous communities are dispossessed to benefit Western consumption, or whether entire groups of people are displaced by “green gentrification”—none of this is a coincidence; according to Hoeder, eco-racism is at the root of it all. Even the ongoing global warming—the author argues—systematically affects people of color, while the white West benefits from a certain lifestyle. Eco-racism, she says, is the link between racism and climate change.
“We talk about human-caused climate change, but in reality it is Western-caused climate change,” states Ciani-Sophia Hoeder in her latest book, *Eco-Racism*. The white West has created an economic system that exploits not only the environment in the Global South but also its people. Ciani-Sophia Hoeder powerfully demonstrates why bamboo toothbrushes won’t save the world and what lies behind the term “green Nazis.”
As part of the lecture series “Living Critically with Racism,” the Municipal Integration Center cordially invites you to a reading and discussion with author Ciani-Sophia Hoeder at the Palais Wittgenstein. The on-site café is open to guests starting at 5:00 p.m.; admission begins at 5:30 p.m.
Ciani-Sophia Hoeder is a freelance journalist, a columnist for “SZ Magazin,” and the founder and managing director of “RosaMag,” the first online lifestyle magazine for Black women in Germany. She studied political science and journalism.
The event is being held in cooperation with the Eine Welt Forum Düsseldorf.
