In the organizer's words:
Berlin-based Olga Reznichenko, who was born in 1989 in Taganrog on the Azov Sea in Russia, is on a roll: first the Südwestrundfunk radio station announced that the pianist would be awarded the SWR Jazz Prize in 2026, then she also won the German Jazz Prize in "Piano/Keyboard Instruments" and now she is coming to Cologne Jazzweek as a "Featured Artist". As a teenager, Reznichenko discovered jazz as a unique playing field on which to express her personality as well as her conflicting emotions.
She first studied jazz piano in Rostov, Russia, before joining Richie Beirach at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Academy of Music and Dance in Leipzig. In 2018, she founded her jazz piano trio, which now only has her initials O.R.T. in its name. Reznichenko feels just as at home on the grand piano as she does on the keyboard and synthesizer. And whether with a band or alone at the piano, her improvisational music oscillates between odd meters and the roughness of punk rock, often exploring the extremes of sound, phrasing and tone formation.
