OPERATION GRAND SLAM // THE CINEMATIC SOUND ORCHESTRA
Hamburg has a new large ensemble - and what a large ensemble it is: OPERATION GRAND SLAM! The large-scale sound collective is a fusion of Sebastian Hoffmann's Der Kosmische Souverän and Christin Nedden's Oceanside Large Ensemble. With both musicians' love of jazz-rock from the 60s and 70s, they bring the colorful two decades into the modern era, taking listeners on a wild rhapsody of journeys. The result is programmatically selected film music of Lalo Schifrin, Quincy Jones or Ennis Morricone (among others) and original compositions in a fusion of virtuoso jazz improvisation, stoic - grooving funk - and "punchy" rock elements. The band thus not only combines different musical genres, but also captures a stylistically broad audience with their music: With avant-garde complexity and energetic improvisation, the ensemble leaves jazz lovers wanting for nothing, at the same time invites groove lovers to dance with driving beats of funk and rock, and ultimately delights cineastes and vintage enthusiasts with an authentic retrospective of the 60s and 70s.
