Orgelkonzert Roland Maria Stangier

Our organist in residence, Roland Maria Stangier, is back again this year: At the “Nuremberg International Organ Summer,” he will present a musical journey through time across the Parisian organ scene on one of the world’s largest organs —from Franck’s romantic chorale style, through the symphonic development of Widor and Vierne, to the virtuosic brilliance and tonal sophistication of Dupré and Duruflé. BIOGRAPHY Roland Maria Stangier studied with Zsolt Gárdonyi in Würzburg and Daniel Roth in Paris. He was a recipient of the Berlin Allied Air Lift Memorial Fund Scholarship (Bourse du mémorial du pont aérien), making him the first organist to be awarded the scholarship. During this time, he devoted himself to his studies in Paris and Strasbourg under Daniel Roth and André Fleury. After serving as cantor in Schopfheim (1982–83) and Berlin (1983–91), he was cantor and organist at St. Petri Main Church in Hamburg from 1991 to 1995, as well as director of the Hamburg Bach Choir. In 1994, he accepted a position as professor of organ and organ improvisation at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. From 1998 to 2000, he also served as principal organist at the Reformed City Church in Solothurn (Switzerland). The organist is the founder of the Maurice Duruflé International Improvisation Competition in Hamburg. From 2003 to 2017, he served as custodian of the Kuhn organ at the Philharmonie Essen, and from 2009 to 2023, he was one of the organ curators at the Philharmonie Mercatorhalle Duisburg. Roland Maria Stangier has recorded numerous CDs.
