DANCE GUEST PERFORMANCE

Since its founding in 1986, Canada's Ballet BC has enjoyed an outstanding reputation in contemporary dance. In addition to the iconic choreographies of the late 20th and early 21st century, the ensemble focuses on new works by international choreographers. Under the artistic direction of Medhi Walerski, the 20-member ensemble presents a two-part evening full of energy and diversity.

Johan Inger, long-time dancer and choreographer of the Nederlands Dans Theater, creates the ensemble piece Passing. In the constant flow of birth, ageing and death, it examines the fragile moment in which the intimate aspects that make every life journey unique fade into the background and give way to collective needs. With a rich movement vocabulary of folklore, hip-hop, tap dance and swing, Passing unfolds its very own maelstrom to which one gladly surrenders.

SILENT TIDES is Medhi Walerski's first creation as artistic director of Ballet BC. With an original composition by Adrien Cronet and music by Bach, Silent Tides is an intimate work for two dancers that reflects on our relationship with our counterparts and ourselves: Touch, time, eternity, love, death, infinity, ebb, flow.
