With PERFECT DAYS, Wim Wenders (Paris, Texas, Wings of Desire) returns to his feature film work. The writer and director heads to Tokyo to tell a story that celebrates the hidden pleasures and trivia of Japanese culture. Koji Yakusho (Babel, 13 Assassins), winner of the Best Actor Award at Cannes 2023, plays the lead role of Hirayama, a thoughtful middle-aged man who lives a life of modesty and serenity, spending his days combining his job as a dutiful janitor of Tokyo's many public toilets with his passion for music, literature and photography. As we follow him through his structured daily routine, a series of unexpected encounters gradually reveal a hidden past that lies behind his otherwise contented and harmonious life.

Combining a refreshingly non-stereotypical portrayal of the Japanese capital with a soundtrack consisting of iconic hits from the 60s and 80s, the film is a subtle, dazzling and ultimately life-affirming reflection on the search for beauty in the everyday world that surrounds us.
