Vadim Neselovskyi & Ysaÿe String Trio

February 2026 marked the fourth anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In his new work “Perseverantia” (Latin for perseverance, tenacity), the Ukrainian-German pianist and composer Vadim Neselovskyi, who lives in the U.S., draws on episodes from the war in his homeland. The suite for piano and string trio comprises ten movements with titles such as “I Don’t Need a Ride” and “Funeral in Lviv.” Neselovskyi learned some of these stories from a distance through the media, and much more from his encounters with Ukrainian refugees and his collaboration with Ukrainian musicians. The composition alternates between introspective passages and explosive intensifications. Stylistically, Neselovskyi deliberately transcends conventional genre boundaries. Elements of jazz, contemporary classical music, and improvised music blend into a unique formal language of high artistic intensity. Vadim Neselovskyi, who—in addition to his international concert career—teaches jazz piano at Berklee College of Music in Boston and at the Maastricht Conservatory, performs his work together with the Dutch Ysaÿe String Trio, featuring violinist Rada Ovcharova, viola player Emlyn Stam, and cellist Willem Stam.
