The Düsseldorf Poetry Slam—for once, not at zakk
Host: Markim Pause Pack your swim gear—we’re heading to the outdoor pool—with all the slam poets and their poems!
Words you’ll never forget. Poets who inspire. An incredible metaphor that leaves you shaking your head in awe. That one bad joke that makes you giggle. That one crazy thought you just can’t shake.
At a poetry slam, every evening is different. We don’t know what’s going to happen tonight—we just know one thing: you definitely shouldn’t miss this!
Since 1997, poets from all over the German-speaking world have been coming to Düsseldorf to compete on this stage. The Poetry Battle is a home for vibrant live literature—whether read from a script or recited from memory, whether poetry or prose, anything that thrills the audience is allowed here.
There are only three rules in a poetry slam:
1. All texts must be original works,
2. no longer than 6 minutes, and
3. must be performed without props or music.
The text and performance are judged by an audience jury, which is selected anew each evening.
In the end, the entire audience decides with frenetic applause who gets to stand under the confetti cannon and win the poetry battle.
Markim Pause has already popped the winning bottle of champagne. Aylin Celik is giving the carpet one last once-over with the lint roller. The microphone is on, the spotlights are blazing.
