Roger Kintopf Trio

The Roger Kintopf Trio is the latest project by bassist and composer Roger Kintopf, one of the most distinctive voices on the Cologne scene. The ensemble will make its debut at Cologne Jazzweek.

At the heart of the ensemble is Kintopf’s music—edgy and fluid, with clear structures and plenty of room for interaction. From fixed forms and open improvisation emerges a sound that remains constantly in motion, continually sending the three musicians down new paths. At his side are two of the most exciting voices of their generation. Emmanuel Michael has long been a fixture on the New York scene and performs regularly alongside Ambrose Akinmusire and Marcus Gilmore. As a bandleader of various projects and a sideman, Sun-Mi Hong is one of the most influential drummers on the European scene and has received countless awards for her music.

Together, they combine virtuosity with a sensitive creative spirit, presented live for the first time at Cologne Jazzweek.
