Ronald Reng „Der deutsche Sommer“

2006—the World Cup was held in Germany, millions of people from all over the world visited, and a sense of lightheartedness, the kind that only summer can bring, swept across the country. Germans, who had previously been hesitant to display national symbols, painted the national colors on their cheeks; immigrants waved the German flag for the first time in their lives; and international polls declared Germany the coolest country in the world. Today we live in a different country. Ronald Reng describes that era of lightheartedness and asks whether such a sense of elation is still possible today.

Ronald Reng, born in Frankfurt am Main in 1970, made a name for himself as the author of narrative nonfiction books and as a sports reporter. His book about the national soccer goalkeeper Robert Enke’s futile battle with depression was an international bestseller.
