Rundgang der KHM 2025: Filme von Studierenden (Programm 1)

From Thursday to Sunday, the film program at Rundgang 2025 will present a total of 44 films by students of the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM) that have been made over the last twelve months as part of their studies. Feature films, documentaries, animations, experimental films and hybrid forms of cinematic storytelling will be shown in 13 program blocks in the auditorium of the KHM and in the Filmforum in the Museum Ludwig.

Together with her mother, the filmmaker returns to her grandmother's house in Turkey, which has been abandoned for years. This place becomes the setting for an examination of family and social experiences of violence. The focus is on the story of her family, who came to Germany from Turkey in the 1970s as part of the so-called guest worker movement. The eldest daughter is abused by a neighbor. Instead of support, she is blamed by the German justice system, trivialized by media coverage and isolated by her own family until she takes her own life at a young age. Her fate remains a secret for decades and yet is omnipresent - the burden is passed on to future generations. "For Çiçek" tells of the traces of racist and patriarchal violence that run through generations, and of how and whether a language can be found for the unspeakable and healing can take place.

What is actually going on with feminist solidarity? The filmmaker sets out in search of answers and encounters witches in the process. She is drawn into a world with a past that is as dark as it is life-affirming, full of contradictions that defy all rules. The witches' traces lead her from the tourist store to the church, from TikTok to the sea.

After the screening, the directors, authors and image designers present will talk about the process of making their films and introduce their film teams in a discussion with the audience.
