Rundgang der KHM 2025: Filme von Studierenden (Programm 8)

From Thursday to Sunday, the film program at Rundgang 2025 will present a total of 44 films by students of the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM) that have been made over the past twelve months as part of their studies. Feature films, documentaries, animations, experimental films and hybrid forms of cinematic storytelling will be shown in 13 program blocks in the auditorium of the KHM and in the Filmforum in the Museum Ludwig.

The Luninets airfield in Belarus is located 40 km from the border with Ukraine. At the initial stage of the full-scale war, it was actively used for attacks on Ukrainian territory: missiles were launched and Russian airplanes made sorties from there.
Čornaja poliŭka is soup that I offer to an uninvited guest - a dish of traditional Belarusian cuisine, made of goose or pig blood. It is a polite way for a young woman's parents to reject a young man's marriage proposal. By offering this dish to my guest, I refuse to accept him in my home.

Ava comes home to find her partner Paul transformed into a cat. She too can no longer remain human. In a world characterized by rigid norms and human standards, Ava finds a new form of connection with her partner Paul. The more they engage in the transformation and alienate themselves from the outside world, the more their relationship becomes a rebellion against social expectations.
Can we create a community that welcomes the strange, the animalistic and the non-normative?

Gérard Lucas, 2023, 17 min.

In this experimental performance film, Hani Gimna intersects how a historical neurodivergent figure named Gérard Lucas experiences and handles language with the process of an AI image generator creating images. Both practices have in common that the mediating role of the mediums takes priority over the meaning. She looks at the performance, which is mediated by choreographed camera movements, through the lens of Gérard and AI.

After the screening, the directors, authors and image designers present will talk about the process of making their films and introduce their film teams in a discussion with the audience.
