Salty Irina – Verbranntes Land
In the organizer's words:
This story is about Eireni and Anna. Two young women full of a spirit of adventure and idealism who spend their days and nights on the roof of a squatted house in a medium-sized German city. It is the summer of their love, but it is also the summer when people are being murdered and disappearing. A Senegalese tailor, a shop owner of Turkish descent… The police say it’s the mafia. Eireni and Anna know that can’t be true.
Driven by the desire to stop what’s happening, the two launch their own undercover investigation into the far-right scene. But the longer they try to pass as Nazis while remaining true to themselves, the more real the danger they face becomes—until they learn the hard way that it takes more than courage to stand up to fascism.
*Scorched Earth*is set in Germany, even though the author, Eve Leigh, isn’t from here at all—she lives in London. England hasn’t been spared the shift to the right, but Germany is the country of the NSU and the murders in Hanau. The play won the prestigious Austrian Nestroy Prize in 2025. We are the first German theater to stage it. Because it’s a great play that we, as a team, are looking forward to. And because it concerns us all.
Post-Performance Discussions
After the performances on September 26, you can speak with the play’s translator; the author will be our guest at the performance on October 2; and on October 9, we’ll be speaking with Fabian Jungnickel from the youth cultural center forum
