Sarah Chaksad: AMELIA (Clubnacht des Deutschen Jazzfestivals)
In the organizer's words:
For over ten years, Sarah Chaksad has been a major influence on the European jazz scene with her medium- to large-scale ensembles. The Swiss alto and soprano saxophonist, composer, and bandleader is internationally acclaimed for her recordings and concerts. Her music combines compositional precision with emotional depth, structural sophistication with sonic openness.
With AMELIA, the musician is now opening a new chapter. AMELIA is more than just a project name—it’s a statement. Etymologically, the name traces back to Old Persian and is often associated with meanings such as strength, courage, drive, or effectiveness. Applied to Chaksad’s music, AMELIA stands for an active, alert presence in the world: for music that takes a stand without becoming rigid, that allows for emotion without becoming sentimental, and that does not shy away from complexity but makes it a sensory experience.
Featuring: Sarah Chaksad (compositions, alto and soprano saxophone), Fabian Willmann (bass clarinet, tenor saxophone), Andreas Tschopp (trombone), Espen Berg (piano), Lukas Traxel (double bass), and Eva Klesse (drums).
In collaboration with the Jazz-Initiative Frankfurt.
