A faithful adaptation of Jon Krakauer’s non-fiction novel about a young man who left his old life behind in 1992 to live in the wilderness.

At age 20, all doors are wide open for the outstanding athlete and student Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch). Nevertheless, after graduating in April 1992, he spontaneously decides to leave his privileged life and his parents’ home (William Hurt, Marcia Gay Harden) behind. He donates his savings and, without a penny to his name, hitchhikes across the United States into the wilderness of Alaska. Four months later, his body is found.

A tragic story of a dropout, in which Sean Penn, in his fourth directorial effort (most recently: “The Promise”), adapts Jon Krakauer’s non-fiction novel into an intense adventure, a sensitive character study, and a gripping survival drama.
