Jewish life in Cologne was first mentioned in writing in 321. Since then, a lot has happened in the city on the Rhine. As a child, the son of the cantor at the Cologne synagogue, Jaques Offenbach, played music at Neumarkt and Simon Oppenheim played Princess Venetia in the Rose Monday procession in 1824 and in the following sessions.
The poet Heinrich Heine wrote many exciting, astonishing and amusing things about Cologne. Gerd Buurmann presents the wonderful city on the Rhine with his texts, among others.
