Sir John Eliot Gardiner was one of the benchmark original sound pioneers in the early years of the Musikfest with the English Baroque Soloists, the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique and the Monteverdi Choir - for which he was awarded the first Musikfest Prize in 1998! Last a guest in 2002, he now returns with The Constellation Choir & Orchestra, a young collective of first-class international singers and instrumentalists founded in 2024. They will be performing two key choral works from the Romantic period. In the "Schicksalslied", the setting of a poem by Friedrich Hölderlin, Brahms masterfully and musically depicts the contrasting worlds of divine and human existence. The "Lobgesang" was composed in 1840 for the celebrations in Leipzig to mark the 400th anniversary of the invention of printing. Mendelssohn Bartholdy spectacularly depicts the consequences of Gutenberg's achievement as a victory of light over darkness - with three instrumental parts and a dominant fourth vocal movement with arias, duets and choruses. Gardiner, a master of arcs of tension and dynamic gradations, will bring out the grandiose sound splendor of the two masterpieces in the best possible way. Welcome back, Sir John Eliot!
