»Semiotiken der Drecks­arbeit« (Nuray Demir)

Even the mothers and fathers of performers Nuray Demir and Minh Duc Pham cleaned the filth out of the powerful institutions. In the early mornings, when the theaters and museums were empty, they removed the urine stone from the urinals or emptied the wastepaper baskets with the draft texts for the rejection letters to the artists of color. The lives of the second generation also take place outside the gaze of the dominant society and they too are condemned to do dirty work. In their production, Nuray Demir and Minh Duc Pham work hard to make the institution shine clean. The aggressive all-purpose cleaners of cultural studies are now attacking their health. In "Semiotics of Dirty Work", the two work unpaid overtime to polish off the institution's stubborn ideological deposits.

*Semiotics understands human communication as a science. It looks at the signs of communication, such as words, images or gestures. For some areas of life, the signs remain unexplored. Performers then take on this work.

Nuray Demir is an artist and curator in the field of visual and performing arts. Her practice is characterized by a research-based and radically transdisciplinary approach. Demir has realized projects at various institutions such as the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, the Museum für Kunst & Gewerbe Hamburg, the HAU Hebbel am Ufer in Berlin and the Wiener Festwochen. She also brings her approaches to teaching, for example at the Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin. She is currently a scholarship holder at the Tarabya Cultural Academy.
