"Juicy: The latest works by Sergej Sperling"

Sergej Sperling's latest paintings radiate a fresh liveliness. His latest works, created over the course of the last year, reveal a new painterly style that he himself describes as "juicy". These oil paintings appear immediate, direct and lively, in contrast to his earlier, more complex works. The painting style is fluid and spontaneous, a reaction to the challenges and uncertainties of the past. Sperling's brushstrokes are looser, his vocabulary of forms reorganized.

The paintings invite the viewer to experience their colors and forms intuitively, without searching for decipherable messages. Circles, stripes and organic forms are combined with allusions to landscape motifs, while the scale of the motifs fluctuates between abstraction and figuration. The variety of possible interpretations allows the viewer to wander between macro and micro worlds.

It is striking that all of Sergej Sperling's new paintings are vertical formats, which enables a more intensive encounter with the viewer. These works are an offer to freely unfold the imagination and to understand the view of the picture as a personal encounter.
