Highlights of international dance

Compagnie Hervé Koubi (France)

Hervé Koubi describes SOL INVICTUS in his working notes as follows: "The universe, the passing of the seasons, how do we fit into these large, swirling, changing spaces? This space, connected with the meaning of our lives, is limited by its beginning and its end; all our destinies are the same in it and therefore - connected and confronted with it - I dance." For the choreographer, loving and dancing are part of the same indivisible whole that makes up life. And so SOL INVICTUS is intended to be a spark - as radiant as a life full of the joy of dancing ... together. But what does "dancing together" mean? The answer to this question remains a mystery to Koubi. What he does know, however, is that he wants to tell a story of love, mutual help, solidarity, light and connection. Dance brings people together and unites them. Dance subverts geographical boundaries. In this choreography, Koubi also blurs the boundaries between different styles of ballet, street dance and acrobatics - together with 15 dancers from five continents. The doctor of pharmacy with Algerian roots decided to pursue a career as a dancer and choreographer and to study in Aix-Marseilles. In 2010, he founded his first company in Algeria. He selected 12 dancers from Algeria, Morocco and Burkina Faso at an audition to develop his new oeuvre with them. None of the talented dancers - mainly hip hoppers and street dancers - had ever performed on a stage before. In 2015, Hervé Koubi created LES NUITS BARBARES, his homage to the North African peoples of the Mediterranean region and his view from this space.
