In Memoriam – Filmvorführung & Gespräch im Friedrich-Ebert-Haus
In the organizer's words:
The feature film*In Memoriam*tells the moving story of the people of Alsace and Lorraine who were forcibly conscripted into the German Wehrmacht during World War II as the so-called “Malgré-Nous” (“Against Our Will”). It explores themes of rejection, belonging, and ultimately the search for identity by an entire generation from a region that is today considered the heart of Europe.
The Friedrich-Ebert-Haus will screen the film onOctober 16 at 6 p.m. Following the screening, there will be an opportunity to speak withdirector Benjamin Steinmannand learn more about the film’s production and its historical context.
Benjamin Steinmann began working on the screenplay at the age of twelve. Without financial support and using amateur actors, he produced his first feature film. Since then,*In Memoriam*has been screened far beyond the borders of Alsace, including in Vienna, Luxembourg, and New York.
All interested parties are cordially invited.
Free admission. No registration required
The event is part of Heidelberg’s French Week (October 8–18, 2026).
