Jazz-oriented, hip-hop-trained: Soul Supreme's work is based on a certain duality. His highly acclaimed 45s are reinterpretations of classic material - by A Tribe Called Quest, J Dilla, Madvillain, Mos Def and Grandmaster Flash. They all show how carefully he studies and dissects the music. Soul Supreme turns things on their head to create something completely new. His works pay homage to both the sampled originals and the productions of the golden era. This spirit is also inherent in his own compositions - which can currently be heard on the LP "Poetic Justice", released in 2023.

The Amsterdam-based, Jerusalem-born keyboardist, DJ and producer first released music under the name Love's High on the Chicago record label Star Creature in 2018. A year later, his first 45 with his own versions of "The Message" (Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five) and "Umi Says" (Mos Def) on Tugboat Edits laid the foundation for the following records under the pseudonym Soul Supreme.

"It's kind of ironic: these songs are interpretations, but almost everything is different," says the artist himself about his versions of two A Tribe Called Quest classics. "The harmony, the melodies, the instruments used for each part, the structure... I want to take listeners on a journey through music they know, but from a different perspective."

It is this approach that is celebrated and played by the likes of Jazzy Jeff, Lord Finesse, DJ Koco, Z-Trip, Rich Medina and Skratch Bastid.

With acoustic piano, Fender Rhodes, Moog Sub37 and Sequential OB6 as tools of the trade, Soul Supreme released a series of highly sought-after and instantly sold-out 45s under his own label Soul Supreme Records. This was followed in 2020 by an official album of original compositions - with influences ranging from jazz-funk to house music and broken beat to hip-hop production. His latest LP "Poetic Justice" was released in 2023.

As a DJ, Soul Supreme has supported acts such as DJ Shadow, Damu The Fudgemunk, Boogie Blind, DJ Day and Shortkut (The Beat Junkies). He is currently on stage for DJ sets in Amsterdam, New York, Paris, Berlin and Cologne. You can experience Soul Supreme live and with a band at the concert in April at the "Schleuse Zwei" music bar in Düsseldorf.
