The relentless shackles of achievement and morality clash with youthful rage: The rousing hit musical*Spring Awakening*gives the teenagers from Frank Wedekind’s scandalous classic a loud and clear voice. Young Wendla is forbidden to learn where babies come from, and Moritz struggles with school while his father brutally punishes every mistake. Both turn to Melchior, who impresses them with his wealth of knowledge about love, the body, and the desire for freedom. When Moritz is finally held back a grade due to a teacher’s arbitrary decision and Wendla becomes pregnant without knowing it, the order of their strict parents’ world shatters. 

With rebellious rock music and touching honesty, the young cast explores oppression, the struggle for sexual self-determination, and the devastating consequences of parental ignorance. This contemporary take on old-fashioned bourgeois morality made the award-winning 2006 musical one of the world’s most frequently performed hits. Director Fabiola Kuonen and ^JUST+, together with the young people of CANTAMUS, explore the honest perspectives, needs, and taboos of today’s generation, shouting them out over distorted guitars. Our
2nd conductor Viktor Jugović draws out the necessary sonic power from the musical.
