Wind orchestras and wind ensembles from NRW are closely associated with contemporary music.
They play contemporary compositions by Dutch, Belgian and English composers more often than most symphony orchestras - tonal music that suits the sustained sound of brass. Brass music has long since ceased to be associated only with the preconception of big cheeks and stomping on the dance floor of a folk festival - on the contrary: it has also reached the avant-garde. This is why this sixth edition of the STATIONEN concert series presents music for brass ensemble. The program includes works by new music veterans Witold Lutoslawski, Luciano Berio and Wolfgang Rihm as well as composer Milica Djordjevic and two world premieres by Vivan Bhatti and Sowon Yun.
