The world of taiko is incredibly diverse. Above all, the different ways of moving while drumming and the rhythmic vocabulary characterize the various taiko styles. With Ingmar Kikat (founder of Kion Dojo in Hamburg), you’ll discover a modern approach to taiko. Natural movements blend with groovy, danceable rhythms, where the “show” takes a back seat and the musical feel and interaction among the drummers take center stage!

This workshop with Ingmar Kikat (Kion Dojo Hamburg) focuses on playing taiko with groove and flow. Using patterns from the piece “Beat T1,” we’ll explore samba-like, accented grooves—but played in a unique and special way that’s unlike anything found in samba or other taiko styles. Here you can also learn a lot about the techniques for a relaxed and flowing accented playing style!

Ingmar founded his taiko school, Kion Dojo, in Hamburg in 2006, modeled after Kaoly Asano’s Tawoo Dojo and the GOCOO group in Tokyo.
