Daniel LaRusso moves to New Jersey with his mother. At his new school, he meets cheerleader Ali - but unfortunately also her jealous ex Johnny. Johnny gives Daniel a good talking to and trashes him with his "Cobra Kai" gang. Luckily, Daniel spends his free time studying with the janitor and karate teacher Mr. Miyagi.
The series "Cobra Kai" (2018-2025) continues the philosophical question of whether Johnny Lawrence is the real "Karate Kid". "The Karate Kid" received three sequels, a reboot with Jackie Chan and a reunion of the two universes with "Karate Kid: Legends" in 2025. Pat Morita was nominated for an Oscar for "Best Supporting Actor" and a Golden Globe in 1985. In 2025, "The Karate Kid" was added to the National Film Registry.
