The Murder Capital bring post-punk to Germany for three shows
The current Irish music scene is known for its rebellious, up-and-coming post-punk bands that transform their pain and despair into powerful music. The Murder Capital from Dublin also embody this mood - with their dark and at the same time hopeful music, they have won the hearts of many fans in a very short time.
The five band members - frontman James McGovern, guitarists Damien Tuit and Cathal Roper, bassist Gabrial Paschal Blake and drummer Diarmuid Brennan - met at a music college in Dublin in 2017. Shortly after forming the band, they grew close due to personal loss and traumatic experiences and turned their grief into music. In collaboration with the renowned producer Flood (PJ Harvey, New Order, U2), they released their debut album "When I Have Fears" in 2019. The work is a mixture of intense trauma coping and musical courage, and delighted critics and fans alike. In Ireland, the album reached number two in the album charts and made The Murder Capital one of the most important voices in the punk scene. They quickly proved their reputation at concerts too: whether in small basement clubs or on large festival stages - their gripping performances leave a lasting impression on every audience.
After a break due to the pandemic, the band wanted to tackle new music with more calm and time to reflect. The result followed in early 2023: their second album "Gigi's Recovery", which features an even greater range of vulnerability and self-reflection. With this album, they topped their domestic album charts for the first time, and once again made it into the top 20 of the UK charts. The year 2023 had even more milestones to offer: The band toured the USA for the first time and played spectacular gigs at legendary festivals such as Coachella, Glastonbury and Reading & Leeds. One thing always remained the same: their incomparable ability to bring the energy of their studio recordings to the stage and make the audience sweat - whether in the mosh pit or singing along loudly in the front row.
After supporting Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds this fall, The Murder Capital will return to Germany next year: With their new album "Blindness", which will be released on February 21, they will be stopping by three German cities in May on their biggest European tour to date.
