Christianity between the Bible and the sword

The thematic arc of this anthology ranges from "Basic features of a Jesuit pacifism" to "Cornerstones of a (military) right of resistance". This urgently needed discourse is flanked by church-historical research on "Bernhard von Clairvaux, Luther and the consequences" as well as church-political insights into the "state of Protestant peace ethics" following Russia's attack on Ukraine and the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel. Against this background, "Profiles of a new world (peace) order" are also outlined, inviting further reflection and discussion.

With contributions by Hans-Lothar Domröse, Anne Gidion and Patrrick Roger Schnabel, Wolfgang Koch, Friedrich Kramer, Rochus Leonhardt, Johannes Schilling, Thomas A. Seidel and Ellen Ueberschär as well as a sermon by Bernhard Felmberg.

Thomas A. Seidel, born in 1958, was born in Neukirchen a.d. Pleiße. He is a German Protestant theologian and historian. He was a parish pastor in Ollendorf (near Weimar) from 1988, Director of the Evangelical Academy of Thuringia in Neudietendorf from 1996 to 2005, then from 2005 to 2010 Commissioner of the Protestant Churches to the State Parliament and State Government of Thuringia, from 2010 to 2018 Reformation Commissioner of the Free State of Thuringia.

Since 2018, he has been Head of Deacon Training at the Diakonisches Bildungsinstitut Johannes Falk (dbi) Eisenach/Erfurt, and since 2019 Chairman of the Board of the International Martin Luther Foundation. He has been Grand Commander of the Protestant Brotherhood of St. George (StGO) since 2019.
