Vernissage

Ansgar Rolfes (*1978) studied graphic and communication design until 2001. In his examination of himself and his environment, he repeatedly finds his way to landscape painting. The abstract landscapes - mostly in oil or mixed media on canvas, wood or paper - are AReals: revenants of spaces and experiences. An expression of inner positioning. Expanse, size, variety and impression find their equivalent in composition, contrast and color. They create space for interpretation and reflection on one's own experiences; at best, they lead back to them as a starting point for something new. Stirring and tugging like a strong wind on a wide surface. Ansgar lives and works in Cologne, where he runs his design office, runs an exhibition space on the side and paints in his studio or on the road.
