Verse und Vibrato: Oper meets Poetry Slam

At the Romanfabrik, professional opera singers come together with accomplished spoken-word artists for the first time. The concept takes the traditional poetry slam to a higher level: music and the spoken word enter into an unprecedented interplay. Well-known characters from opera are examined from a new perspective and take on fresh meaning through their synergy with the spoken word. How well do I really know Carmen’s famous “Habanera”? Or can I learn something new about her by teaming up with a spoken-word artist? The power of the spoken word meets the metaphysics of music, creating an entirely new sensory experience full of suspense and intense emotion. The evening is hosted by opera director, playwright, and professional spoken-word poet Aileen Schneider (permanent position at the Frankfurt Opera from 2020 to 2025, with her own productions at the theater, recipient of the Götz-Friedrich Prize for her production of Reimann’s “Melusine” at the Frankfurt Opera).
