Vortrag: Die Geschichte der Oberkasseler Brücke

Fifty years ago, the bridge was moved more than 47 meters.

For the second time in this historical series, we’re taking a look at the Oberkassel Bridge. That’s because, following its initial construction in 1828, we’re celebrating two anniversaries of the bridge this year. In 1926, the bridge’s towers were removed to allow for the bridge’s reinforcement and widening. And almost exactly fifty years ago, the young people of Düsseldorf witnessed a world sensation when the newly constructed 12,500-metric-ton structure was shifted laterally by exactly 47.5 meters. Two reasons to delve once again into the bridge’s history spanning over 125 years. Speaker: Frank Leuwer.
