Supporting Program for the 2026 Study Trip to Bulgaria – Open to Anyone Interested!

Bulgaria has been an EU partner country for nearly two decades, meaning it has shared a partially common history with Germany since 2007. And there are many more historical connections, some of which date back a very long time. Yet most of us here in Germany know very little about them. Who, for example, thinks of this when entering the ballroom of Berlin City Hall and standing there in front of the monumental painting “The Congress of Berlin 1878” by Anton von Werner (1843–1915), that in a certain sense the founding of modern Bulgaria is also depicted there? Why this is so, along with some key aspects of Bulgaria’s long and eventful history, will be the topics of the evening.
