Was bedeutet es, mit Parkinson zu leben – und wie kann ganzheitliche Medizin dabei helfen, die Lebensqualität zu erhalten?

In the organizer's words:

A special evening at the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger workstage is dedicated to these questions. The medical talk is being organized in collaboration with the Parkinson's self-help group Cologne of the German Parkinson's Association and parkimotion.de Cologne. It is part of the Cologne Parkinson's Days 2026.

Parkinson's is one of the most common neurological diseases worldwide - and yet many people are hardly aware of it. Yet it not only changes the lives of sufferers themselves, but also those of their families and those around them. It's time to bring the topic out of the shadows: with knowledge, openness and an explicitly positive view of life with Parkinson's.

Professor Sandra Szymanski heads the Department of Neurology and Complementary Medicine at the Augusta Clinic in Hattingen - a certified Parkinson's specialist department. Her approach is unique: she combines state-of-the-art neurological science with the 5,000-year-old empirical medicine of Ayurveda. Yoga, meditation, Ayurvedic nutrition, herbal treatments and individual lifestyle advice complement traditional therapies such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy - and thus open up completely new ways of dealing with the disease.

Gerhardt Haag, actor, long-time director of the Theater im Bauturm and founder of the africologneFESTIVAL from Cologne, will also be there. He lives with Parkinson's himself and runs the self-help group in Cologne. He will give a first-hand account of what the disease feels like in everyday life, what experiences he has had with the healthcare system - and what gives him strength.

Together, the panel and audience will also venture a look into the future: What is being researched? What treatment methods are emerging? And how can life with Parkinson's be a good one?

An evening for sufferers, relatives and anyone who wants to understand more.
