Welcome to Nightmares von Charles Dickens und H. G. Wells - mit Carsten Bülow

Anyone who has ever attended one of Carsten Bülow’s horror readings knows it’s going to be thrilling. With “The Railway Man” by Charles Dickens (1812–1870) and “Pollock and the Porrohmann” by H. G. Wells (1866–1946), the program for this evening features two English classics of the horror genre:
Dickens, the most popular author of the Victorian era, didn’t just write realistic novels like *Oliver Twist* and *David Copperfield*. His horror stories also struck a chord with his numerous readers. With the short story “The Railway Man,” he created a macabre masterpiece that critics have placed on par with the stories of E. A. Poe.
A generation later, H. G. Wells became world-famous through novels such as “The War of the Worlds,” “The Time Machine,” and “The Island of Dr. Moreau.” His fantastical tales made him a co-founder of science fiction literature. He also wrote a series of socially critical novels and numerous nonfiction books. In “Pollock and the Porrohmann,” he turns his attention to voodoo magic.

Carsten Bülow, born in 1963, lives in Dortmund. He has been involved in theater since his school days. After 10 years at the Dortmund City Theater, he has been working as a freelance actor, reciter, host, and voice actor since 2010. He has appeared in numerous productions, including at the Wuppertal Opera, the Theater Fletch Bizzel, and on the MS Europa. He is considered a specialist in classical texts, having given approximately 1,000 readings to date.
