Skeptics in the Pub" is a British pub edutainment idea that has now found a home in Cologne. Viewers can expect an entertaining talk followed by a discussion in a relaxed atmosphere.

The series is organized by Kölner Skeptiker*innen. We are a community of like-minded people who want to engage with the world in a rational way based on scientific methods. Our goals are the promotion and dissemination of scientific methods, critical thinking and the skeptical examination of our society, as well as informal exchange in convivial company.

Of all forms of conspiracy beliefs and science denial, climate change denial has the potential to keep us busy for a particularly long and intense time. The reason for this is that we will all be challenged to change our lives. How much easier it is to deny these challenges, especially as we feel inherently competent: what do we talk about more often than the weather? Thus, a doubt about the reliability of forecasts in general, which is understandable within limits, alternates with all kinds of superficial but seemingly convincing arguments. A former television meteorologist denies the existence of the greenhouse effect as a whole, a Nobel Prize winner in physics considers the human contribution to be insignificant, and a former eco-activist and environmental senator expects a coming phase of a "cold sun". The lecture examines the most important arguments of climate change deniers.

Dr. Holm Gero Hümmler has a degree in physics and a doctorate in a border area of nuclear and particle physics. Research stays took him from the Max Planck Institute for Physics in Munich to CERN and Brookhaven National Laboratory. He has now been working as a management consultant for over 20 years and has been self-employed for over 15 years. In his spare time, he deals with conspiracy myths, pseudophysics and science denial from a skeptical perspective, is chairman of the GWUP and part of the regular cast of the streaming format WTF-Talk. His fourth book, "Faktenimmun", will be published this spring.
