WONK UNIT

England 2005: Alex Brindle Johnson's band "The Flying Medallions" is disbanded. Punk is so boring, so dead. But the chance meeting of Alex with drummer Mez Clough and guitarist Gavin Kinch, whose way of playing suddenly makes his songs sound fresh, brings new hope: WONK UNIT - to this day one of the most versatile and varied bands in London.

Their own sound, their own humor, their own festival and deeply rooted in a DIY background. WONK UNIT provide exactly the input that punk has needed for years. Alex Brindle Johnson is the heart of the band as lead singer, poet, skater, stage performer and creative engine. The music doesn't care about genre boundaries in the slightest and yet is always Alex Brindle Johnson and therefore WONK UNIT.

On stage, the mastermind becomes a steamroller and celebrates fireworks full of energy, anger and irony. Lyrically, he works through his diary, for example about grandmothers, girlfriends who cut their fingers and trains. A band that is simply great fun to watch live and that quite a few people claim is the most exciting thing to happen in punk rock at the moment.
