Zeynep Bakşi Karatağ

Few voices touch on the first note. Bakşi Karatağ's voice is one such voice. It is both delicately intimate and powerful at the same time. With this special combination, Bakşi Karatağ makes traditional Turkish songs sound familiar and yet new. She appropriates modern songs with particular sensitivity. Her love of experimenting with arrangements and electronic sounds is remarkable. However, this never seems arbitrary, but always sounds organic thanks to her voice.

Zeynep Bakşi Karatağ trained at the renowned Mujdat Gezen Institute in Istanbul and studied at the state conservatory. She now lives in Germany, but was awarded the "Altin Kelebek", Turkey's most important music prize, as the most popular artist in 2021. This was not least due to her critically and publicly acclaimed albums "Mozaik" and "Usluca", both of which were released on the "KALAN" label.
