In its pivotal role as the University of Cologne’s theater and as an interdisciplinary theater for Cologne’s independent theater scene (and beyond), studiobühneköln plays a key role in shaping the cultural offerings for students and audiences of Cologne’s independent theater scene.

The studiobühneköln’s program includes in-house productions, co-productions with numerous independent Cologne-based groups, student productions under the “UniBühne” label, national and international guest performances as part of “Europäische Positionen,” and the NRW-wide emerging artists’ festival “fünfzehnminuten.” In addition, studiobühneköln partners with renowned festivals such as “Impulse Festival for Performance, Theater & Dance” and “west off.”

A comprehensive and free course program in the fields of theater, film, and photography is open to all students every semester and offers a creative complement to everyday university life. The course program is presented regularly at the information evening at the start of each semester.

Currently, studiobühneköln is in an interim phase without its own venue. Under the motto “AUSWÄRTSSPIELE,” it is touring with its own productions, co-productions, guest performances, and festivals in numerous theaters across Cologne, in public spaces, and at site-specific locations.
