Albaniens Süden mit dem E-Bike
In the organizer's words:
A talk for anyone with wanderlust
Southern Albania is considered by cycling travelers to be as challenging as it is charming: significant elevation changes between the coast, mountain passes, and mountain villages meet an impressive landscape nestled between high mountains and the Mediterranean Sea. At the same time, tourism offerings and infrastructure are changing rapidly.
Anuschka Dinter-Mathei, a passionate travel journalist and the face behind the blog “Rosas-Reisen,” explored the region last fall on an e-bike and captured her impressions in a 90-minute slide presentation
The route leads from Lake Ohrid over the mountains, along the Vjosa River, and down to the coast at Vlora. Thanks to e-bikes, even longer climbs can be tackled—provided there’s a reliable charging station available in the evening.
Along the way, glimpses into the region’s past and present keep emerging: bunkers by the roadside serve as reminders of the Hoxha era and the country’s former isolation. Abandoned houses in mountain villages point to demographic changes, while new hotels along the coast bear witness to the tourism boom—and at the same time raise questions about resource consumption and land use.
