Gemeinschaftliches Wohnen in Essen – so geht’s!
In the organizer's words:
On November 10at 6 p.m. , you can come to the VHS Essen to discuss communal housing projects in Essen and learn what’s already possible and what obstacles still exist when it comes to alternative living:
Rising rents, a shortage of housing, and an urban society where isolation is on the rise are creating palpable pressure. Against this backdrop, the question arises: How can life in our neighborhoods be organized differently? Many experts view communal living arrangements as a key to a more resilient urban structure. However, their implementation often fails in everyday life due to rigid allocation and building regulations.
In cooperation with the alliance “Essen Zieht Zusammen – Netzwerk Essener Wohnprojekte,” we are addressing this dilemma. It brings together dedicated initiatives and voices from politics and public administration. Anyone who feels the desire for change will find practical knowledge here. For example: What distinguishes a building group from a cooperative? How does a loose idea become a viable concept? Using examples from the Ruhr region, activists will discuss financing, planning, and day-to-day collaboration. They’ll also address the obstacles that can stall projects, such as land negotiations. According to the network, these pioneering efforts demonstrate that social and environmental goals can go hand in hand.
