Krimilesung: Taverne der toten Fischer
In the organizer's words:
Regional crime novels thrive on the tension between local color and crime. The genre requires knowledge of the area, a sense of the local milieu, and a willingness to look beyond the tourist facade. Katerina Gatakis brought these qualities to the table when she wrote her first Greek crime novel; with *Tavern of the Dead Fishermen*, she is now presenting the second volume of her series *Anna Apostolakis Investigates* at her reading at the VHS Essen.
The setting is a picturesque bay on the Peloponnese. There, the body of the young fisherwoman Zoí Mitropoulou is found floating, drowned in her own nets. Detective Anna Apostolakis and her colleague Loukas Petritsis soon determine that it was murder. Their investigation leads them into the secretive world of Greek fishermen and the taverns of Kalamata. It soon becomes clear that the young fisherwoman had many secrets; behind some idyllic scenes, illegal activities lurk. Apostolakis and Petritsis navigate a web of mistrust, family ties, and old scores.
