It’s always fascinating when contemporary composers explore genres with a rich history: Fortunately, Tobias PM Schneid, Minas Borboudakis, Brett Dean, and Hans Lüdemann have taken on the challenge of writing new piano études, all of which will be performed as world premieres in this concert. As different as the four composers’ approaches may be, they all share a love for the sound of the piano and, in some cases, breakneck virtuosity. A program in honor of the piano.
