Duo Bordenave & Popp: 100 Jahre Coltrane - Interstellar Space
In the organizer's words:
September 23, 2026, marks the 100th anniversary of John Coltrane’s birth. To commemorate this occasion, tenor saxophonist Matthieu Bordenave and drummer/percussionist Simon Popp present an intimate reinterpretation of Coltrane’s final great legacy: *Interstellar Space*. Recorded in 1967 and released posthumously, this duo album is considered one of the most radical works of free jazz—a dialogue between saxophone and drums that completely transcends the boundaries of rhythm, sound, and expression. Matthieu Bordenave, born in France and deeply rooted in the European jazz scene for years, is known for his distinctive, lyrical tone and his ability to navigate between deep tradition and radical openness. Simon Popp is one of the most versatile percussionists of his generation, combining structural thinking with an immediate sensitivity to sound. Together, they approach *Interstellar Space* not as a reconstruction, but as a living conversation with a monument of jazz history—with all the freedom that Coltrane himself demanded.
